(500) Days of Summer

“You all hate Summer but Tom never listened to her. When she would share something personal, the narrator drowns out what she's saying. He talks about her crooked teeth, her mole, things that anyone would be able to notice on a surface level. Tom doesn't even validate her feelings. His response to her opening up is, "I guess I'm just a special guy." He never gets to know her on a non-superficial level. Maybe that's why summer is a really poorly developed character because we never get to find out things about her as 500 Days of Summer is from Tom's perspective. Moreover he played the victim and never seemed to reflect on his toxic behavior”
